Pfizer Streamlines Worldwide Financial
Data Consolidation and Reporting
Pfizer is the world's largest research-based biomedical and pharmaceutical company, with $50B in annual revenue and a stable of well-known and successful drugs, such as Lipitor, Viagra and Zoloft. In one of the largest Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) installations, over 250 users access HFM applications worldwide to manage, analyze and report the company's consolidated financial data.
The Challenge
Pfizer's Finance Systems Group wanted to use HFM for rich consolidation of business unit data, and to generate true and accurate consolidated reports via its Business Objects reporting standard desktop tool.
The Solution
Using Star Integration Server, Pfizer automatically and reliably extracts consolidated data across all HFM dimensions into a SQL Server database, cutting extraction time from 60 hours to less than 9 hours.
The Result
The Star Integration Server's fully automated process with enhanced logging and error handling allows the Finance Systems Group to run the entire 335 million record extraction process overnight without any manual IT intervention.
Pfizer's HFM users can now directly report against consolidated results through Business Objects without performing additional calculations. The Business Objects report data is refreshed on a daily basis.
Because the Star Integration Server leverages all HFM's native security and user privileges, users can now define their own data extracts based upon their HFM security permissions without using the HFM Administrator account.
Star Integration Server's unique balanced hierarchy functionality also allows Business Objects users to drill down to detailed data and see the same familiar HFM drill path in their reporting environment.
