As the world's premier toy provider, Mattel manufactures, assembles and distributes a wide variety of products through its owned and operated facilities around the world.

The Challenge

At the company's headquarters in California, a 2:00 am backup solution caused daytime downtime to its staff in Singapore. Mattel needed a thorough and continuous Essbase backup solution without taking applications off-line.

The Solution

Using the Star Integration Server's Intelligent Extract, the company is able to run a perpetual backup process every 10 minutes, without ever taking a cube offline.

The process creates a "Working Backup" that can be used for Data Warehousing or Standardized Corporate Reporting. It is entirely automated and scheduled.

Planning cubes are replicated to Oracle every 10 minutes. Metadata and Security are synchronized every 24 hours.

The Result

Star Integration Server's uninterrupted backup system eliminates critical downtime. It also enables consolidated reporting on a near real-time basis.
